Just like the great masterpiece of Oscar Wilde, this article which was published in The New Straits Times today and written by one who calls himself Dr. Awang Bin Puteh revealed how comical double standards, ‘lupa daratan’, vanity, arrogance and hypocrisy thrive in the corporate world and among billionaires. And we thought these people living in the upper echelons of society could at least be humble, reciprocal and more reflective about their social standing and how they came to be.

CRONY CAPITALISM? It’s time for YTL boss to walk the talk and show ethical leadership by example
APPARENTLY, the negative trait of Melayu mudah lupa is not only confined to the Malays, but also to other ethnic groups in Malaysia. This is evident from the statement by YTL Corporation Bhd managing director Tan Sri Francis Yeoh when he commented on crony capitalism a few days ago.
Yeoh’s claims that he is successful because he is not a crony and doesn’t depend on government contracts.
He also went further, which seems tantamount to fanning the flame of racial provocation, by stating that non-Bumiputera small-and-medium enterprises (SMEs) “absolutely have no chance” to even fight “for the crumbs” as they are already at the low end of the food chain.
He delighted in lecturing us, delivered with a straight face and an affectation of pious conviction, that Malaysians are not taking advantage of our ethnic diversity, and we must introduce more open competition and encourage greater transparency in business.
Not unexpectedly, his statement evoked negative reaction from the public, and many reacted in disbelief to Yeoh’s hypocrisy given his companies’ close links with the government in the past as well as in the present.
Tan Sri Ramon Navaratnam summed it up aptly when he said that “people who live in glass houses, should not throw stones”. He further correctly stressed that Yeoh’s talking about getting rid of cronyism doesn’t sound right while his companies bagged lucrative government contracts through direct negotiations rather than open tender exercises.
Why the repetitive mantra by Yeoh despite YTL receiving all the government’s love and special attention all these times? We know that great wealth buys great political influence, but to insult the people’s intelligence with his sermon borders on brazen arrogance.
Maybe these kinds of people live in a bubble, and not surpassingly, those inside the bubble sometimes think that they can pull the wool over our eyes.
Nonetheless, let us address Yeoh’s arguments specifically.
Yeoh is adamant that YTL is successful because he is not a crony and doesn’t depend on government contracts. That is a bold statement.
Without government contracts, YTL would still be a small-time contractor. In fact, it is continuously the beneficiary of government assistance. For instance, in 1990, YTL was awarded an almost RM1 billion contract to build public hospitals.
Unless Yeoh suffers from amnesia, he could not possibly forget his big break in 1992 when the government awarded him the first licence to build, operate and manage power plants.
Without this lucrative concession, his company would probably be stuck as Syarikat Pembinaan YTL Sdn Bhd, a relatively small construction and property development company. This foray into the power sector vaulted YTL into the big league, where its pre-tax profit last year alone amounted to RM2.5 billion, versus RM30 million in 1991 before contributions from power operations began flowing in.
Importantly, most of the projects given to YTL were and still are heavily subsidised by the rakyat. His power agreement with Tenaga Nasional Bhd was so lopsided and utterly unjust that Tan Sri Ani Arope, the then TNB chief executive officer, submitted his resignation after refusing to accept YTL’s terms.
His “take or pay” agreement with TNB obligated it to take up YTL’s power output — priced much higher than what TNB could easily produce — whether the utility needed it or not, for 21 years.
Maybe that’s what Yeoh meant when he stated that YTL became successful via “innovation”, which ripped off billions in taxpayers’ money.
Has he also conveniently forgotten how he was recently awarded a RM10 billion contract by the Education Ministry to provide, among others, laptops to schools, despite YTL not being a computer maker, nor expert in education services? The contract irked member of parliament Zaril Khir Johari, who raised questions on this issue in Parliament. His 1BestariNet programme, which is to install 4G high-speed broadband to all schools, indirectly means that the rakyat are actually funding the commercial expansion of YTL’s YES 4G network. So much for innovation.
Yeoh was also borderline malicious when he said the non-Bumiputera SMEs had been discriminated by the government.
Well, I wonder where he got his statistics from. Analyses done by the Economic Planning Unit show that non-Bumiputera businesses, especially Chinese companies, took 80 sen for every RM1 in government contracts.
Even funding for SMEs benefited non-Bumiputeras the most, as data shows that Bumiputera companies accounted for about 30 per cent of the entire funding for SMEs last year.
To put things in perspective, the value of the contract YTL secured from the Education Ministry alone, for providing only laptops to students, exceeds the entire funding for all Bumiputera SMEs for the entire period of last year!
It is heart-warming to learn that YTL supports national unity. Let us, for a second meditate upon and closely scrutinise these nationalistic statements from Yeoh: “We should leverage on our different ethnic races in the nation and should start working together. We have been working for a long time like we’re in a tunnel. We have not learnt to work together. We have been separated and not looked at each other’s strengths. We do not celebrate our diversity.”
Such enlightened view should indeed be emulated by other companies! However, in the name of transparency, would YTL be willing to make public the ethnic diversity figures in YTL workforce, its board of directors, exco, senior management, mid-management and low-level positions?
YTL should also make public how much was sub-contracted to Bumiputera and Indian companies, compared to Chinese-owned companies.
Similarly, in the name of transparency, would YTL also make public its power agreements, which had enabled YTL to make astronomical returns at the expense of the people? Please allow public scrutiny of the agreements, as suggested by MP Tony Pua from DAP not too long ago.
Yeoh also argued that he is a true patriot, for he has “defended the present government’s concerted efforts to introduce more open competition and encourage greater transparency in business”.
This is commendable, but flies in the face of facts. How does YTL explain its willing participation in direct negotiations with the government on some of the most lucrative contracts? It was only last week that a YTL Corp wholly-owned subsidiary was awarded a power plant project by the Energy Commission via direct tender!
Maybe YTL can make a declaration to the public that it will no longer participate in direct-negotiations and cease altogether from seeking contracts from the government.
There is still time for redemption for a devout man like Yeoh to walk the talk. I am sure he would like to show ethical leadership by example.
Moving forward, we have to help Yeoh from backsliding from his recent epiphany, and to become the born-again corporate leader that he aspires to be.
I would urge the government to be kind to him by avoiding any dealings with YTL group, either in providing contracts, or using its products and services. The government should also exclude YTL from participating in any way whatsoever in the KL-Singapore High Speed Rail project, if the project is yet to be awarded to him. He sorely needs help from the government to wean him away from his old habits.
As for me, I will also do my little part. I will stop patronising YTL hotels, shopping malls and Internet service provider, among others. I am boycotting YTL and I suggest the rest of Malaysia follow suit.
After all, Yeoh proudly claimed that his company gets 85 per cent of revenue from overseas operations.
Oh, by the way, the deafening silence from some of the most vocal critics of crony capitalism in Malaysia is really puzzling.
Imagine if the same statement was made by a Malay tycoon, I am sure the deafening silence will become a raging tropical thunderstorm.
Maybe when a Bumiputera businessman gets a contract, it’s cronyism and unfair privileges. But when people like Yeoh gets it, it is innovation, market forces and meritocracy.

There is this thing called ego. The feeling of self importance. The need to show that when you have reached a certain level of success, you think you are great, you should be telling the world so, and that others around you must follow what you say. Notwithstanding its accuracy and relevance to the situation.
Then bang, you get whacked, criticized, told off and have to face the backlash.
Francis Yeoh is one. Tony Fernandez is another. One who thinks he can do no wrong. One who thinks he is in the league of the publicity-seeking British Virgin Airlines’ Richard Branson who at one time said he might often be talking with “Ma’am” Queen Elizabeth because his daughter was then a girl friend of Prince William. Yes, Francis Yeoh has been talking to the Prime Ministers and the Sultans of Malaysia. The consortium partner is Sultan Johor and photographs have come out showing him being attentively listened to by Sultan Selangor and Raja Perlis.
In the US there is the loud-mouthed braggart billionaire Donald Trump, a strong opponent of African blooded Barrack Obama who he accused of not being a US-born citizen eligible to serve as President of the United States and kept bringing up “the birther issue” even after Obama won the Presidency; he even produced cheap TV series called “The Apprentice” with him playing a leading part, for the publicity effect. And we know who tried to copy that very same thing in Malaysia. Francis Yeoh didn’t but let go his ego at the Pemandu Seminar and unexpectedly found the publicity on his comments there hugely negative. Well, you can’t be great and right all the time …
Great? Pssst, let him enjoy a bit of ego polishing during this period of adverse publicity.

The Importance of Being Earnest, is a 2002 British-American romantic comedy-drama film based on Oscar Wilde’s classic comedy of manners. British manners, as Oscar Wilde was British. So, how to expect Francis Yeoh to know British manners.
Unlike Lim Kit Siang, Francis Yeoh doesn’t look the crude, subversive (Kit Siang was ISA-ed), speaking-for-communist-Chin-Peng DAP type. But what he said at the Pemandu Seminar tells he is not much different from the DAP kind that Professor C.P Fitzgerald wrote in his book, “A Short Cultural History of China” (600+ pages – he spent 5 years in China gathering material for his books on the history of that country and its people.)
Many other professors have also written about the Chinese jingbang claims of superiority, calling themselves “the Middle Kingdom”, being the only ones “civilized”, all others even the Europeans were “barbarians”. Yet the history of China has been one of great suffering and misery, conquered and ruled by foreign powers (Hong Kong was returned to China only in 1990), bullied, then treated as a pariah by Western countries, until only 1-2 decades ago. So much suffering and misery that Kit Siang’s and Francis’ forefathers ran away and became pendatangs to this country. Often bad-mannered, ungrateful and ingrate.
When free, I might stop by again and c&p the many write ups that have appeared in the Internet from time to time on the origins of those “not being earnest”.

I like this quote I picked up from a British news organization a while ago:
“the narrowness of the territory that separates caustic British wit from tiresome British obnoxiousness.”
But the territory that separates Chinese wit from Chinese obnoxiousness is so very wide. In fact, I hardly find any Chinese wit. It’s just caustic statements like those of Francis Yeoh, Lim Kit Siang, Kim Guan Eng, Tony Pua and others. Always tiresome obnoxiousness coming out from the DAP fellows and their supporters.
Time for me to start pasting c&p comments that have appeared here and there in blogs, here’s one to begin with:
You people keep making fun of the Malays, mamaks, (added: the Malay led government) etc, what about you Chinese? What’s the equivalent to call you all also having mixed blood? Now, now, don’t say you people are pure Chinese.
Here is what Professor C.P. Fitzgerald says in his book, “A Short Cultural History of China” (600+ pages) – he lived in China for 5 years to research and gather material for that book:
The phrase “origin of the Chinese people” is in itself misleading.
1. Chinese culture took root in the plains of Manchuria, a foreign country until after World War II
2. The northern provinces “have always to some degree been mixed with peoples from the Mongolian steppes”. (Hence they are also referred to as the Mongoloid race).
3. The southern and central provinces of China were, before the northerners moved southwards, “covered” by non-Chinese, the Miao, small in size and who the Chinese were contemptuous of.
4. The south was occupied by “aboriginal tribes which once occupied the whole of south China”. The ancestors of most of the migrants to Malaya/ sia came from the south. The Professor said, “A large proportion of the population of the south calling itself ‘Chinese’ is in fact descended from one or other of the aboriginal races” – page 6. “The southern people were then treated (by the northerners) as barbarous” – pg 32. Even in modern times, in Yunnan and Kueichou, tribesmen number half the population.
The southerners comprise the following major groups:
a. Fukienese (Hokkien), “a separate stock, mixed with immigrants from the north and the Yangtze Valley” and speaking “a peculiar dialect”.
b. Cantonese, also speak a somewhat alien language, a form of old Chinese – the south was colonized by the northerners, colonization completed in the 7th Century – some 800 years after China was formed as a political entity by Chin Shih Huang Di.
c. Hakkas, of Kuantung province, known as “guest families” – they speak a peculiar dialect, despised by the Cantonese and do not inter marry. These people were said to have come from the north, running away from frequent Mongol invasions that culminated in the conquest of China by Genghis Khan in the 13th Century.
Another Professor, Albert Kolb, also pointed out in his book, “East Asia”, 1971,
“Chinese culture cannot be thought of as originally Chinese because the Chinese themselves emerged gradually as a blend of many races and peoples”. (Pg 26).
Remember, the Professor said, “A large proportion of the population of the south (where your ancestors came from) calling itself ‘Chinese’ is in fact descended from one or other of the aboriginal races.” So, if any of you are referred to as descendants of the Miao (who are aborigines and non-Chinese), or other aborigines or hill tribes of south China, don’t blame me, I’m just a messenger of the news. You can’t also blame Professor Fitzgerald any more because he died some years ago.

The Myth of the Chinese Cultural Pre-eminence
Ancient Chinese records claim they are the “Middle Kingdom”, the only one civilized, others even in Europe they called “barbarians”. They aggrandized Chinese culture while at the same time denying the achievements of other cultures and races. But Chinese historical documents had often been re-written, making it difficult to ascertain the truths. These have been said by many Professors of History.
The burning of the books occurred not just over 2,000 years ago during Emperor Chin Shih Huang Di, but also in the 1960s during the so-called Cultural Revolution planned by the communist leader Mao Zedong to shore up his popularity after a series of setbacks starting from failed economic reforms called the Great Leap Forward that led to 30 million Chinese dead due to starvation, endless communal fighting for food and stipend, and the intra-factional fighting among the Revolutionary Red Guards.
Those thinking theirs is a higher culture and others have a lower one must read what History Professor Wang Gung-Wu (formerly of Universiti Malaya, now in Singapore) said in his essay “Early Ming Relations with S.E.Asia” pg. 36:
“ … All peoples who believed that they alone were civilized did so because they thought their neighbours less civilized than themselves. This view was often proved wrong by subsequent contact with other civilized peoples.”
Another Professor, Albert Kolb, also pointed out in his book, “East Asia”, 1971,
“For a long time, it (Chinese culture) was taken to be older, and possibly also richer in original features, than in fact it is”. (Pg 25).
“Chinese culture cannot be thought of as originally Chinese because the Chinese themselves emerged gradually as a blend of many races and peoples”. (Pg 26).
According to Professor Wolfram Eberhard, in his book “A History of China”, 1977, writings about ancient China were inventions of a later period, what were said to have been done by the Chinese rulers and the dates they were said to have been done appeared to be even later still. All these indicated that historical writings in China were meant to serve certain politico-ethical objectives.
These are the words Professor Eberhard himself wrote:
“Furthermore, we can now state with certainty that the historical data which were given in written documents for times down to 1,000 BC are false. They are the result of astronomical-astrological calculations, made by specialists of later times who pursued their own special political aims by doing these calculations”. (Pg 1).

The term “ungrateful ingrate pendatangs” is fitting for such blokes. Nothing seditious, nothing acrimonius. The words are factual and can be proven easily.
The Malays agreed to them, who had been Stateless in this country for 150 years, be given citizenship right at Merdeka. They should respect the consideration or quid pro quo – the Special Position of the Malays (extended to the Bumiputeras of Sabah and Sarawak on the formation of Malaysia) be enshrined in the Constitution of the country. Yet they opposed the NEP that was drawn from and inspired by that Special Position. And snide remarks even by the Tony Francis bloke who said he did not depend on Government contracts to grow. Yet he got huge turn-key projects from the Government or the GLCs that are worth much more than the ordinary government contracts. Now, where is gratitude under such circumstances?
And what gratitude can there be from such blokes as the richest guy in the country – billionaire Robert Kuok. He announced that he is “twin-footed” – one foot in Malaysia, another in China. He said so in Kajang when handing over a RM100 million donation to a Chinese University a few months ago. Yet Chinese universities like UTAR had so much donations that they refused a RM30 million offered by an engineer multi-millionaire a year or so ago. And what has he given to the Malays and the Bumiputeras for the sugar monopoly he got from the Malay-led Government that made him a millionaire and amassed additional capital to become a billionaire?
The Malays and the Bumiputeras must wake up, realize the goings on in this country that have led to Chinese pendatang economic supremacy for decades, yet still think of their “homeland” in the mainland. If even the well educated and rich blokes like Robert Kuok and Yeoh Teng Lay have that ultra kiasu mentality, what else can one expect of such pendatang as the DAP Chinese.
The Malays and the Bumiputeras who form nearly 70% of the population of this country are the ones who have helped them become millionaires and billionaires by buying their products and services. I completely agree with the writer of the NST article – boycott their products and services.

Here’s another ungrateful ingrate, though not pendatang. Anwar Ibrahim. Francis Yeoh got IPP during Tun Dr Mahathir’s time but denied it and spoke against crony capitalism at the Pemandu Seminar. Anwar was picked up from the gutter by TDM, advised, led and encouraged until he became Deputy Prime Minister, then he bit the hand that guided him.
Now Anwar talks (at the Selangor Club, KL 2 fays ago) about “a cohesive nation”, the greatest forked-tongue hypocrite the country has ever seen, as he is the one responsible for the greatly divided country we are in now. He divided the country by race and by groups within the same race. He divided the Malays. Like no other time before. History must record him clearly for those.
He should be grouped in the same category as the ungrateful ingrate pendatang. In the same league as Francis Yeoh etc.

Anwar is sure earnest. Earnest in pursuing his ambition. No two-ways about it. Like the Indonesian ex-General Presidential candidate who is now trailing behind in voting forecasts and said losing is no option. Anwar must have said it many times, but lost. The last one at PRU13. And he went crazy, becoming stupid, laughed at internationally, went on street demos saying he won by the popular vote. When this country’s system for the last 56 years has been winning by the number of constituencies.
Francis Yeoh has also been earnest. In making as much money as possible. He slipped up. Out of arrogance and a feeling of self importance. Even maybe a feeling of invulnerability, thinking he is a Tan Sri, rubbing shoulders with Sultans and all. The price he paid is: the Johore IPP. And a name smeared with dirt and hate.

Only people like Tun Dr Mahathir can teach this kind of YTL buggers the fitting lessons.
Keep them at arms’ length, always officious and formal, firmly pushing the NEP agenda, not allowing any nonsense from them, no naik kepala, and they even try to ampu TDM – Francis Yeoh even arranged for the famous Italian soprano Pavarotti flown in and perform in Langkawi last time when TDM was busy promoting the island as a tourist spot.

He raised the matter of hose “those using religion to incite hatred”. Yet he supports those who are bent on using the kalimah Allah – made no mention of them at all, implying those against that are the culprits.
What a dumb stand to take. Yet he wants to be PM. He should read the Constitution Article 3 stating “Islam is the religion of the Federation, other religions may be practiced in harmony”, no other religion is mentioned in name, and a former Appeal Court Judge has stated that that shows Islam has precedence over other religions.
He closes his eyes to those who caused hatred by insisting to use kalimah Allah when Muslims opposed it. And those who spread hatred by saying Muslims in this country are unreasonable, whereas, unlike in Arab countries, the Malay word Tuhan aptly describes the Christian God which takes the form of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Talking about freedom and liberties like a DAP Red Bean. Unable to see that when Islam is written on top of the agenda, as Article 3 of the Constitution, freedom and liberties that are said in the later Articles are limited or excluded by/ in that Article 3, just like Article 153 on the Malay and Bumiputera Special Position limits or excludes that from the Articles on equal rights etc.
So many other instances showing the man is not fit to be PM of this country at all.

So much they gave him a contract to supply chromebooks to all schools in malaysia fully equipped with his ‘yes’ 4G network for billions of RM. You cannot escape ytl. Every penny you pay for electricity eventually goes to his pockets, in malaysia, indonesia and singapore.

I don’t have much regard for Daim Zainuddin’s ways of becoming a multi-millionaire (is he a billionaire now?).
But i agree with what he said on the Francis Yeoh case –
The Malay Mail quoted Utusan Malaysia saying Daim urged successful businessmen in Malaysia not to criticise the government and the country, and to be grateful instead as their achievements are due to government help.
“These successful companies should not paint the country and the government in a negative light because they have received a lot of help,” he was quoted as saying.
“Instead, they should be remorseful and grateful,” added Daim, who was finance minister during the Mahathir administration.
Daim also reportedly said successful businessmen have no right to be arrogant by tearing down the government because their prosperity was due to government aid.
Yeoh sent a letter recently saying that The Malay Mail Online’s report on his remarks headlined “Crony capitalism in Malaysia has to go, son of YTL founder says” gave the wrong impression that “crony capitalism” was how things were done in Malaysia.
In Yeoh’s letter, he said his views were misrepresented.
“This is far from the truth! In fact, I said I wanted to correct this misperception that has hovered around and used by various political factions for 20 years,” he said in the statement last Wednesday.
Whatever it was, the whole episode is proof that the Malays no longer take things lying down. There’s so much hue and cry – even shouting – in the mass media, including the alternative media – against him and the likes of him since that day.
Careful now, you ungrateful ingrates.

Even without reading the text of his speech, to me it is plausible that he did say those things he was accused of saying. You see, the racial atmosphere in the country is bad now. Been bad for some time already. Since Tun Dol’s time, made worse during Ah Jib Gor’s time. So, it’s possible that Francis Yeoh got carried away with the pendatang mentality of the DAP kind.
The ungrateful ingrates have tried to erode Malay rights and interests. And the abominable thing is that Najib wanted to abolish the Sedition Act which protects so many of those Malay rights and interests. The Malay Consultative Council (MPM) has urged the government to re consider its decision to abolish the Act.
MPM Constitutional and Consultative Bureau chairman, lawyer Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman, said at a press conference attended by representatives of 40 NGOs the other day that there was strong basis for concern, especially among the Malays and Muslims, over the drafts of the proposed three bills – National Harmony Bill, National Unity Bill and the National Unity and Integration Commission Bill.
MPM said the three drafts evidently ignored the sovereignty of the Malay Rulers in safeguarding the special privileges of the Malays and several matters such as the racial quota of employees in the civil service that could only be amended under the Federal Constitution with the consent of the Malay Rulers.
So, in light of such developments, we must hit out against anything that appears as attempts to erode the decision making powers of the Malay-led government. And we must support MPM and the 40 NGOs.

I think many among the generation(s) of pendatangs that missed History being made compulsory in schools (beginning in 2013) do not have much respect for the Malay-led government and for the rights and interests of the Malays and the Bumiputeras of Sabah and Sarawak that are enshrined in the Constitution of the country.
As many of them tend to be seditious, I strongly support the objections to the proposal to do away with the Sedition Act and replacing it with the National Harmony Bill. I note that even Tun Dr Mahathir has stated his negative views on the doing away of the Sedition Act and on the National Harmony Bill draft.
I am glad of and support PERKASA’s actions and program aimed at getting Najib refrain from abolishing the Act.

On the other hand, the committee has made a proposal on the creation of a truly effective instrument for national security, he said.
Ibrahim, who is also president of non-governmental Malay supremacy organisation, Pertubuhan Pribumi Perkasa Malaysia (Perkasa), was speaking to reporters after a Public Dialogue and Fourth National Unity Issues here today.
The dialogue, attended by 200 people representing 50 non-governmental organisations was held during a nationwide tour scheduled to end in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
Ibrahim said the committee was in the process of preparing a draft on the proposal which would be tabled to the National Unity Consultative Council for a convention to be held. – Bernama”

Good to know from my own little inquiries that the History results of the first batch of SPM school children of 2013 were not bad. Missed reading the comments by the authorities, if there were any.
Maybe the question setting and the exam papers marking were relaxed in order not to discourage the population from the need to know the history of the country.
Whatever it was, I’m looking forward to seeing the emergence of a fully history-conscious generation of Malaysians. It’s getting pleasurable talking to school children about the country’s past nowadays. They start asking and commenting about the bloody British colonizers and their damn policies tailored to British interests, at the expense of the locals.

My complain with ytl is they have not expanded their erl to connect klia to seremban, melaka, putra heights(where the two mrt lines meet and turn klia into something similar like zurich airport. Or even changi. I sure would like to know the fate of their current power plant in paka and pasir gudang. Will tenaga take over as it was built on tnb land. Those plants have at least another 40 years left if maintained properly.

The greater worry is when they become seditious in what has been described as “their usually wild, unsubstantiated and unjustified allegations”.
I share the concern of others who stated their opposition to the proposal to abolish the Sedition Act, like stated by Isa above.
I think if the Sedition Act is abolished, the dangerous game you mention would lead to an explosion. True, a replacement will come out but, like SOSMA, it is not as effective as ISA where any bloke deemed subversive to the national interest could be hauled to Kamunting for as long as necessary without having the fuss of getting a Magistrate’s or Judge’s consent for detention beyond the specified period and producing the buggers concerned in court and charging them.
This is a multi-racial country with unity and integration problems not like any other in the entire world.

I fear this country is going to the dogs. Without the pendatangs, we would have mush less problems. Some say without the pendatangs we would not have progressed this much. But the measure of progress needs to be properly defined. It’s not just material progress. It’s also peace and harmony under which we can have a decent living, not having much ill feelings among the races.
And can anyone seriously think there is no such ill feelings now that even blokes like the above behave so?
Yet Najib wants to discard the Sedition Act. What the hell is going on in this country these days? Najib having discarded the ISA, the Emergency Ordinance and the Restricted Residence Act causing significantly increased crimes, gun toting and gun shooting in the country since then, UMNO should discard Najib for wanting to discard the Sedition Act now.

They are the type that brings down public confidence yet they accuse others of doing so, like Home Minister Ahmad Zahid insisting that the threat to slap DAP MP Teresa Kok is not a crime.
The woman was charged under the Sedition Act over her Chinese New Year video poking fun at Malaysian leaders and current affairs, raising the anger of a group of Muslim NGOs calling itself “Council of Islamic NGOs”, which said the video was an insult to Malays, Muslims and Malay rulers. They offered a RM1,200 reward to anyone who would slap the Seputeh MP Kok in February.
Ahmad Zahid said, according to the law, a criminal offence could only exist if there were two elements, namely actus reus (element of criminal act) and mens rea (bad intent). Kok’s video had those elements, the offer to slap didn’t – was not a bad intent, was not a threat. Perhaps it was a matter of cause and effect.
The Muslim NGOs demonstrated, and the “news portal” said that according to the group’s leader Zulkifli Sharif. the chicken slaughter and blood smearing demonstration was a reference to the “bloody” May 13, 1969 race riots.
“It is symbolic of the bloody incident. This means we are sending a serious warning to Teresa Kok not to provoke and create something that threatens the peace and the feelings of the Malays,” he said. See the kind of reaction Teresa Kok’s actions had brought about.
DAP people have been prone to sedition. So is the PKR people – Tian Chua has also been charged under the Sedition Act. But, without the Sedition Act, these people would get emboldened in their seditious acts and utterances and these don’t augur well for peace and harmony in the country. The more disconcerting thing is that even non-Opposition blokes like Francis Yeoh are making utterances that are akin to sedition.

I must state my personal feeling that peace and harmony seemed to be slipping since after Tun Dr Mahathir left the PMship. It began to totter during Abdullah Badawi’s “auto-piloting, flip flopping and sleepy” tenure as PM and and became wobbly with the so-called liberalization, the repeal of the ISA, the Emergency Ordinance and the Restricted Residence Act by Najib.
We have to keep on hitting the ungrateful ingrates and calling for the retention of the Sedition Act. And hit at the attempt to abolish it.

Good that Umno MPs derided Francis Yeoh in Parliament – one MP urged the government to make available a video recording in which Yeoh is alleged to have asked for Malaysia to be free of crony capitalism and racial issues or religious rhetoric.
He said this was because Yeoh had denied making such statements and claimed that they had been twisted by the media. Talking about crony capitalism yet his company YTL operates a number of power plants in the country through IPP contracts that have been known as ‘sweetheart’ deals with the authorities. Nasty, irresponsible talk, highly unbecoming of a business leader.
Francis Yeoh should have been whacked prim and proper because what he said embarassed the government in Parliament when one opposition MP who joined the fray, asked the government to block the award of an IPP contract through direct negotiation to a consortium participated by YTL.

Tun Dr Mahathir does not need to be polite when he walloped Francis Yeoh. He used the words a “certain public figure” when hitting at the YTL boss in his blog for putting down Malaysia. The fellow disparage the country when they are able to expand their businesses overseas.
But he was blint when he asked, “Was he born with the riches that allowed him to do business in countries where there is no cronyism or did he not accumulate tremendous capital from this country first before he was able to go overseas to enjoy doing business without discrimination. We all know that it is this terrible country that had given him the chance to accumulate capital for his foreign venture.”
Dr Mahathir also chastised the fler for now begrudging his opportunities to others.
“If he had his chances, is it wrong for others to be given the same chance in this imperfect country so that they may enjoy just a portion of what he has reaped?” he wrote.

And the inflation we are suffering from is due to his crony ipp policies, monopolies, direct nego concessions. Did anyone bother to ask how a RM3 biilion north south highway was bought for RM20 billion? These artificial gomen created inflation is like a second tax for the middle income group who are already one of the highest taxed people on the planet. And get almost zero benefit from the gomen.
We are not talking about ytl’s, kuok’s, krishnans, supermokh’s. Its the ordinary salaryman who are burdened.this is what happens when gomen put party,personal, race, religion interest above that of the citizens.

It takes all sorts to make this world.
There are the dogs that bite the hands that feed them. There are the ultra kiasus that keep wanting more, more and more endlessly, even eating into the share belonging to others. And the common denominator among them is being ungrateful ingrate pendatang.
This term has been used so often that it means the presence of that kind of human beings must have been bothersome to many people in this country. The incidence of ungratefulness must have been so rampant that the double whammy ungrateful ingrate has been used. The hope for unity, harmony and long-term peace diminishes each time such incidence surfaces. Ill feelings, disgust and rancour have been the natural reaction.
Now, how do we get rid of all those? Many have left the country after being shooed out for so long. Not respecting and abiding by the Constitution, the Social Contract among the various communities that came into existence upon citizenship right being given to the pendatangs at Merdeka, and all the laws that emanate from the Constitution certainly deserves being told they may leave the country if they don’r like the system, the foundation for the country’s existence and the laws.
For those who have not left the country but keep on being ungrateful ingrates, seditious, unbecoming and unruly, we need to continue hammering them with words and exhortations designed to knock sense into their insensible heads.

Those who left were mostly the english speakers. The education system left them out. And now, more and more malays seek sanctuary overseas. Do you know what civil rights are, tempawan? Do you know that for every right you want, others also want their right. And theirs may be different from yours. The “right” to use kalimah Allah? You blind to Article 3 of the Constitution which clearly states that “Islam is the religion of the Federation” and no other religion is mentioned, making one former Judge opine (I dislike this word as a verb, but will humour you and use it so this time) that Islam has precedence over other religions.
The term is “ungrateful ingrate pendatangs”, tempawan. Not all pendatangs are like that. Tun Tan Siew Sin, MCA leader, and Tun Sambathan, MIC leader, had stated their gratefulness in no less a place than in Parliament – Siew Sin saying “The Malays have been generous enough”, referring to them agreeing for the pendatangs be given citizenship right at Merdeka and Tengku A Rahman relaxing the rules for the issue of citizenship certificates after Merdeka, like dispensing the Malay language proficiency test, such that many pendatangs cannot even speak BM well now, 50 over years later. How ridiculous.

When fellows like Robert Kuok who got the sugar monopoly, rose to be a billionaire, then announced in Kajang that he is “twin-footed”, one foot in Malaysia, the other in China, and Vincent Tan who got the easy-money lottery license, rose to become a billionaire, now wanting a casino license not bothered about the sensitivities of Muslims, the majority of the population which have felt enough of Genting Highlands casinos to attract tourists, and Francis Yeoh whose YTL Corp had been getting turn-key projects not on the normal tender basis but now criticize the government of cronyism, are we to just grin and bear it like in the past?
No sir, we whack them endlessly to drive the point that they ought to and must be responsible people. Tell Robert Kuok that when he gave the RM100 million donation to a Chinese University in Kajang, he is giving to the community that has been the richest in the community for decades. What has he given to the less fortunate Malays and others for, after all he got the sugar monopoly from the Malay-led government.
Tell Vincent Tan that although he thinks he is the “expert” in the lottery business he should be mindful of the fact that the Constitution Article 3 states “Islam is the religion of the Federation” and Muslims form the majority of the population, so he can’t go on asking for the football betting license previously and now a casino license for the Berjaya Resort.
Tell Francis Yeoh to shove his words into his … one is inclined to be rude to these inconsiderate and unthinking buggers and one stops writing in that instance. One trusts readers get the message though.

thestar reports that YTL Power International Bhd helmed by Francis Yeoh has announced its withdrawal from the project to build an estimated RM3 billion power plant in Johor called Project 4A. And who says it casts doubts on the project implementation? No doubt it’ll cause delays in implementation but sure the project can be carried out by others.
And good that YTL Power are supporting the growing call for the Project to be awarded on a competitive tender basis instead of the direct negotiation approach of the Government. And also good that the company said it remained interested in participating in Project 4A on a competitive basis.
The Energy Commission (EC), in consultation with the Energy, Green Technology and Water Ministry, had made a conditional offer to a consortium comprising SIPP Energy Sdn Bhd, YTL Power and Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) to build the power plant on May 31.
The decision by the ministry and the EC to make a conditional offer to construct the project on a directly negotiated basis to the three parties drew flak because previous power plant projects had all been done on a competitive tender basis.
YTL Power’s withdrawal leaves the project to SIPP Energy, which is a private vehicle linked to the Sultan of Johor and to some extent TNB. But last week, TNB had already indicated its reluctance to participate in the consortium, citing that it needed a month to decide on the offer by the EC. A lot of comments have come out in recent times on the Johore Sultan’s participation in business and what appears to the rakyat to be a deviation from his constitutional monarchy position.
Good of the unions in TNB to have called for competitive tender on the award of Project 4A and have voiced their views to TNB chief executive officer not to participate in the project.
The EC and the ministry have a lot to answer for the direct negotiation intention. Contending that there is a need to to fast-track the construction of the power plant is not enough. Why the rush? Will it cause a crisis or a power catastrophe if otherwise?
Those in the industry expect the EC to annul the conditional offer and call for a competitive tender in view of the mounting criticism, including the opposition from the four unions of TNB representing 34,900 staff. The unions have even handed a memorandum to the TNB boss to voice their opposition to the power company collaborating with YTL Power on the project. This is what may be called responsible trade unionism. I’m proud of them.
YTL Power’s withdrawal from the Project would help dissipate the public outcry over the awarding of the project on a direct negotiation basis. I’m also proud of the public outcry. We all must be vigilant on what appears to be unwelcome practices in the country and shout out aloud against them, whatever they may be.

And the ungrateful ingrate pendatangs continue to denigrate the Malays and the Malay-led government. They say that the first Independent Power Producers (IPPs) got the contracts on negotiated basis during Tun Dr Mahathir’s time and spurns TDM for speaking for the open tender basis now.
They completely disregard the objective of the time, some 20 plus years ago – trying to encourage Malaysians to go into new ventures, like construction technology as in the Dayabumi Complex, car manufacturing, as in the Proton enterprise and power production as in the the first batch of IPPs Of course, now that there are IPPs with sufficient experience gained from the negotiated contracts, they can compete in open tenders even against international companies.
No end to the warped attitude and demented thinking of the ungrateful ingrate pendatangs. The stand on them should continue to be: those having that attitude because of having no respect for the Constitution and the Social Contract and are unwilling to live by the Constitution of the country should migrate.

Gratitude is often not in the vocabulary of the ultra kiasu DAP pendatangs. So is reciprocity. At PRU13, the non-DAP also joined the DAP ultra kiasus and produced a Chinese tsunami. Now, even those normally expected to have been grateful, like Francis Yeoh, appears to have been not.
The term “Chinese tsunami” was coined and introduced to the Malaysian public by no less than DS Najib himself. Yet Najib has appeared to have been liberal, threw out the ISA, Emergency Ordinance and the Restricted Residence Act. He so-called liberalized the economy, even tried to side-line the NEP, angrily shouted at by the Malays and the Bumiputeras of Sabah and Sarawak here and there. Yet apparently those are not enough to the likes of Francis Yeoh.
Came on, Najib. do realize that whatever you do is never enough for them ungrateful ingrates. So why not you just apply the NEP to the maximum and take care of the Malays and the Bumiputeras of Sabah and Sarawak from now on. Remember, they gave you 88 seats in Semenanjung and over 30 seats in Sabah and Sarawak at PRU13.

Ultra kiasu may also not be in the vocabulary of the ungrateful ingrates like Francis Yeoh. To them it’s natural being kiasu, so much kiasu that they don’t realize that they are ultra kiasu.
Some may realize but don’t bother. That’s the nature of ultra kiasu-ness. Like the DAP fellas.
Being kiasu is tolerable – defined as don’t want to lose, don’t want to be left behind. But being ultra kiasu is a no no. Nobody can win all the time.
Even DAP cannot think they’ll ever win against the Registrar of Societies. The DAP CEC is still illegal, not recognized by RoS since 2012. The RoS has power to de-register DAP like it did to UMNO in the past.

Francis Yeoh appeared to be well read, having good taste, a man of culture – he likes operas and even arranged for the Italian classical singer Pavarotti be flown and performed in Langkawi in support of Tun Dr Mahathir’s promotion of the island as an international tourist resort during TDM’s time.
He got the Independent Power Producer project on the basis of negotiated tender, so he’d mengampu and show support. Like all ultra kiasus, when he has no use for people, or when he is strong enough on his own, or has other, bigger weights like Royalty under his wings, he’d sing a different tune. No more the likes of Pavarotti, who is dead, anyway.
There is no end to this kind of mentality among the ungrateful ingrate pendatang, is there? So, what do we do? Well, one thing we can do is to keep on lambasting this kind of ultra kiasu attitude. And those who now must realize that whatever you do, these people will continue to deride, denigrate and make sarcastic remarks against you.
DS Najib, for example. He must realize that while his attempts to win the pendatangs’ votes is understandable but there is a limit to his bending backward. Now crazy to the extent of wanting to remove the Sedition Act, the very instrument that the DAP ultra kiasus and others want removed so that they can continue their politics of hate that caused the race riots of 1969 and now cause the throwing of kepala lembu at the DAP ADUN Rayer’s house, etc.

Then they accuse the Malays, the majority in this country, of being racist. And they did not read about or ignore the DAP’s role in the race riots of 1969. Like stated in the White Paper entitled “13 May 1969: A Tragedy” by the National Operations Council (can be googled). And DAP opposed History being made compulsory in schools, don’t want their kids to know how they behaved as pendatang in this country in the past.
The authorities must really act on them. Don’t just sue them like Najib does to Malaysia Kini. Charge them in court under the Sedition Act, SOSMA, the Penal Code, the Information Act (?) etc. There must be laws against publishing lies, half truths, twisting and spinning of news. Especially when they are misleading and seditious.
And for goodness sake, don’t remove the Sedition Act. I support those who say if the act is removed, those people will get emboldened. And no peace in the country. Many will leave UMNO, like the PERKASA Secretary General said he would if the Act is removed.

The dictionary defines “earnest” being serious, not in jest, and the other definition is token payment, as in “earnest money”.
Francis Yeoh sure was not joking when talking about crony capitalism. But when saying those, was he paying “earnest money” in that he expected more negotiated contracts to come his way, hehe. You’ll never know how weird minds work, would you?
Sure it was weird thinking to be criticizing crony capitalism when he was in the consortium that was being offered to negotiate the Johore IPP together with the Johore Sultan and TNB, withdrawing only after his criticism caused a furore.

The ungrateful ingrates are full of earnestness. Dead serious. About making money. About wealth accumulation. For them and them and them. More, more and more. Never mind about others. As business is about competition – the Americans say, “Kill your competition”, buy them, merge them with you. Until there came out the anti-monopoly enactment in the US.
Tan Sri Francis Yeoh may also be thinking of that. He has already established that special position to easily be invited to negotiate new IPP contracts, so, just keep quiet about your past and incoming new negotiated IPP Johor project but shoot down any others thinking of the same by telling the Pemandu Seminar about crony capitalism.
The presence of the Johore Sultan in the group also helps and he takes it for granted that others would not accuse him of crony capitalism because the Johore Sultan is in the group. Whoever says crony capitalists like Francis Yeoh do not exploit, as business is about exploitation of contacts – politicians, rulers, whatever. The only difference is he is being ultra kiasu – to him, only he can exploit, others cannot.
To DS Najib, it’s transformation and DS Idris Jala is tasked to get Najib’s policies implemented – those that I think the prime movers of the Civil Service, the Pekhidmatan Tadbir and Diplomatik, has been lethargic to because those policies are hardly, even contradictory to, the interest of the Malays and the Bumiputeras of Sabah and Sarawak. Najib only wants progress, irrespective of the position of the Malays and the Bumiputeras, who form about 70% of the population of the country, in the economic and other fields. They would not like to see the China-ising of this country.

To be saying “non-Bumiputera small-and-medium enterprises (SMEs) “absolutely have no chance” to even fight “for the crumbs” as they are already at the low end of the food chain”. the bloke must be a hell of an ultra kiasu bugger.
That’s not a slip of the tongue but a shitting of his dirty, warped and demented mind. For example, just in the construction industry where YTL and the non-Bumis make tons of money, how many Bumi SMEs that can really stand on their own now? How much Ali Baba-ism in one form or another is still being practised? How many Malay contractors have their own backhoe tractors, pumps, cranes and engines of all sorts to carry out construction contracts on their own?
So, who carry out those contracts that the Bumiputeras get? Come on, Francis, don’t be daft. Practically all are carried out by the non-Bumiputeras. Then there are the contracts that the non-Bumiputeras get themselves, in their own names. Does it not occur to your stunken head that there must be times when the non-Bumi contractors are carrying out ALL the construction contracts in the country. The Tan Sri Yeoh fellow must have his head bound with plaster all over the place. Being hit and wanked here, there, everywhere, in blogs etc, for his nasty, unthinking and stupid remarks. May even be thought-out remarks, in which case, he deserves more and endless wanking.
The problem is there are many others like him. In fact all those called ultra kiasu are like him. Vincent Tan got so many tongkats like the lottery license, became multi-millionaire, still wanted the football betting license tongkat from DS Najib. Robert Kuok having become a billionaire starting from the sugar monopoly, now saying he is “twin footed, one foot in China”, with so much investments there.
How not to call them “ungrateful ingrate pendatang”? They don’t really feel Malaysian these people. Free citizenship and no language tests have made them so. There should be changes to the rules on the issue of citizenship papers and identity cards in this country. There ought to be some tests on loyalty to the country.

Now even the Scots want to be independent of the British, and if Scotland votes yes in the referendum coming soon, the 300 year-old United Kingdom will be no more, just England, Northern Ireland and Wales.
Don’t any one allow Penang to be let go like stupid Tengku A Rahman did to Singapore in 1965. The history books should be changed to show the stupidity of T A Rahman. .

Some people have said if DAP tries to be funny with ill intentions on Penang island, UMNO should look into the agreement signed by the British with the Sultan of Kedah long ago.
There has been tipu of some kind along the way. About protection and stuff that I’m not clear about. Then persuade the Sultan to abrogate the Treaty (presumed still valid after independence) and bring back Penang under Kedah and rule it as one of the districts of the state!.

“.. people living in the upper echelons of society”. Are they the same as before? 20 years ago, 50 years ago? Doesn’t that term need a re-definition? Don’t they include more crooks, crude and unsavoury characters more and more as the years went by?
Robert Kuok used to be thought of as gentlemanly, soft spoken, polite, respectful and mindful of the high values of society. But, when he announced that he has one foot in China, what does that tell of his character? The term ungrateful ingrate pendatang has been over-used but, sad to say, is still applicable.
Francis Yeoh has, to my mind, never been known in the same league as Robert Kuok. Vincent Tan, Daim etc? I’d rather not say. Even in the US, there are the likes of Bernard Madoff who made off with US50 billion of fellow Jews’ money he yukked in a Ponzi scheme some years ago. More of the same in UK, Europe, Thailand, Japan, etc. Italian Berlusconi, Thai Sinawtra and many others wanked billions thru corrupt practices.
These kind of blokes don’t belong to “the upper echelons of society”, do they? Even literary figures, national laureates like Samad Said sold his soul to the devil. Now lending his name to Ambiga’s Negara Ku. An organization led by a woman who declared election issues being Bersih’s aims but allowed the whole gamut of Anwarish Pakatoon Rakyat’s political issues be shouted by her and gang. It’s a crazy world out there these days.
To hell with “the upper echelons”. I’d rather brush soldiers with the plain and simple, uncorrupted Pak Man, Pak Long and Pokdos. No negotiated contracts and IPPs that way? I won’t be writing this otherwise, would I?

I’m glad that these days and for a long time now the Malays no longer just grin and bear it when the ultra kiasus try to undermine the Malay-led government, subvert the Special Position of the Malays, the NEP etc.
Back in the 1960s, the Malays had to just grin and bore it. Until bo tahan and mengamok on 13 May 1969. Now more Malays are educated and have confidence in themselves and won’t take things lying down. Like Dr Awang Puteh showed above.
Yet the racist bugger Lim Kit Siang twisted and spun TS Muhyiddin’s advice for the rakyat to find ways to avoid another 13 May. Until the “unclever” ex-Professor Ramasamy even issued a challenge to “bring it on”. They have been slammed left, right and centre. Let’s slam them some more until TS Muhyiddin’s message gets interpreted properly.

The comment by Dandy and the replies by Diddy above encourage me to paste some more what the professors wrote about China and the Chinese.
These are not racist or seditious comments and not designed to stoke up ill feelings but are merely findings by academics who did a lot of research and studies to come out with history books in which those are written.
They should help readers understand the thinking of the Chinese people, their characteristics and tendencies. What Francis Yeoh and others like him said may be understood with that kind of background.
So here goes a few more academic findings:
Professor C.P Fitzgerald said in his other book on China, “A Concise History of East Asia, pg 13-14:
“Archaeology has recently shown that the Chinese had very little reason to take up the superior attitude”. The Chinese were not “the Middle Kingdom”, not the only one “civilized”, and the others were not “barbarians”.
Professor Charles Holocombe, in his book, “The Genesis of East Asia”, 2001, pg 60 said that other Chinese even called the original state of Chin as “barbarian”
Professor Wolfram Eberhard, wrote in his book, “A History of China”, 1977, pg 60:
