“What more do the chinese want?”

Utusan Malaysia today asked a very pertinent question and perhaps the most important question any leader in Barisan Nasional worth his salt would be asking – “What more do the chinese want?”

The article stated the facts that had been happening during Najib’s tenure as prime minister and his effort in wooing the chinese towards Barisan Nasional. Judging by theresults of the recently concluded general election, those initiatives and special treatment accorded to the chinese community wasn’t appreciated in the form of votes.

Basically, the utusan journalist – Zulkiflee Bakar showed his tremendous journalism skill in asking the right and brave question. A question which non of the Barisan Nasional leaders dare to say it out loud and non of the chinese voters will answer truthfully.

So, the question has been asked.

What would be the answer? Most likely, the chinese that didn’t vote BN will answer along these lines –

a) We want democracy, zero corruption and more transparency.

b) We have had enough of over 50 years of the same government.

c) We want to end race based politics

e) We want to stop discrimination against the non-malays.

f) Any other politically correct answers.

All the answers above are mild answers but not really the CORRECT answer. This is because, all the reasons given above happens in Pakatan Rakyat as well.

For instance:

a) There is no democracy and transparency in Pakatan Rakyat especially in DAP and PKR. DAP has gag orders and PKR has an unelected leader as their leader for life. DAP’s elections were rigged and now they are in trouble with the ROS. As for corruption, who would forget Nga Kor Ming’s tailoring contract to his wife? Or Ngeh Koo Ham’s business venture into getting lands in Kelantan worth millions of ringgit? Not to mention, Lim Guan Eng’s RM4.3 billion (I lost count on the cost changes of this project) tunnel project fiasco which undoubtedly will have a toll running for decades when it is completed. The chinese must have been kidding when they didn’t vote Barisan Nasional because they wanted democracy, zero corruption and more transparency. Therefore, this is not the real answer.

b) DAP has a leader which has been at the helm for nearly 45 years! Hence, the chinese contention that they are sick of the length Barisan Nasional in power, does not hold power. Unless of course, this is also not the real answer.

c) Pakatan Rakyat not only has a race based politics, they are also religion based party. With chinese dominated DAP whereby it is the chinese that control their central command, there is actually no power sharing among the races in DAP. Everyone must pay homage to the one and only dictator and his son, the little emperor. DAP is also very much christian in their outlook while at the end of the spectrum, PAS and their islamic firebrand kind of politics. It is only a matter of time, these two parties will implode from within and hopefully near each other due to their vast dichotomy of different ideologies. On the other hand, only the blind will deny that Barisan Nasional is a race based party as it is a coalition of multi racial parties. The power has been diluted and shared among the many different ethnics and communities. If Umno had its way in monopolising power just for itself, this country would have been very different indeed. Obviously, for the chinese to hate race based politics is not the real answer too.

d) In Pakatan Rakyat, the discrimination against non-malays is quite rampant as what we can see in Selangor when under the leadership of Khalid Ibrahim (and his DAP masters), many indian shrines or temples were abolished without warming or compensation. The plight of the folks from Kampung Buah Pala was greatly neglected after Lim Guan Eng attained power in Penang in 2008. You can’t be telling one party that you dislike the discrimination against non-malays but close one eye towards the discrimination performed by your OWN party. Hence, the chinese do not really care about the discrimination against the non-malays and this is really not the answer. If discrimination does exist, maybe because Barisan Nasional liked the chinese so much to enable that community to produce dozens of billionaires in this county. That is discrimination.

So what is the real answer?

What is it do they want?

It can be found between the lines in the article below. An answer which the DAP leadership do not want to say it out loud because it is a sensitive subject towards their partners in Pakatan Rakyat. That is why the DAP leaders today was so riled up by this article in Utusan. It touches their nerves. Utusan called their bluff. How could this Zulkiflee Bakar asked them this question? They can never answer it truthfully because it will only expose their true objective.

Kudos Zulkiflee Bakar for this terrific journalism. As the saying goes, great journalism is the ability to ask the right and the difficult question.

Apa lagi orang Cina mahu?

    • I consider myself a moderate and modern Malay who still values highly all the wonderful Malay values and traditions, and I take pride in that. I can still remember the tragic 13 May incident and its aftermath, as I was in secondary school then. Over the past few years I watched with trepidation as our political landscape gets more and more polarised along racial lines. Despite the campaigning by the political parties, (especially one particular opposition party) it was my fervent hope Malaysians would not vote along racial lines, especially when the PM went out of his way to please the voters, specifically the Chinese voters. Alas, my fears were proven right. The results have shown that the Chinese voters have deserted or abandoned BN en masse. I was not shocked by the results, only a bit frustrated as I could see it coming. Now, after some soul-searching, after being a silent observer all these years, it is time I speak up for Malay/Bumiputra rights. For starters – BUY CHINESE LAST! I hope I am not too late.

    • Txs JMD for a very well responded post. From about 9 pm last night to 5.20 am this morning there are 28 solid and meaty comments. And I’m sure many angry ones have been left out.

After reading the 28 comments, here are my humble suggestions for DS Najib – based primarily on getting the young to think right for the future of the country:

      1. Implement the Single-Stream Schooling or Satu Sekolah Untuk Semua (the Kempen SSS portal should now be re-activated)

      2. Ensure the History syllabus for schools emphasizes and dwells on the Social Contract i.e activities prior to independence, the independence negotiations and the framing of the Constitution – the granting of citizenship right to the non-Malays and the recording of the Special Position of the Malays and the Bumiputeras of Sabah and Sarawak, the Ketuanan Melayu as reflected in the roles, functions and responsibilities of the YDP Agong, the Malay Rulers, the Rulers Council etc, i.e those which DAP has been exploiting since its formation, caused the race riots of 1969, and still exploiting at PRU13 in one way or another, subtle and brazen.

(Kudos to TS Muhyiddin for making History compulsory in schools and, until Single Stream schooling exists, ensure it covers all the vernacular schools).

      3. Actively and deliberately explain the need for and promote a sense of loyalty to country and patriotism based on the Constitution. Not only in schools and in government service (expand the BTN courses to include non-Government personnel – disregard the criticisms, which they have been making anyway) but also through the mass media via forums, seminars, competitions of all sorts. Get a robust, respected and influential Minister of Information who can have good relations with and can persuade the many independent TV and Radio channels to do the same.

Nothing better than to start all those right away – so that there are 5 years to adjust and amend before the next general elections.

Najib should be asking what more can he gave to the malays. Apakah cukup dgn apa yg ada pada melayu? For all the 13 PRU, good or bad, malay people did come through for UMNO.
Please najib get down to the UMNO grass root and get down fast. Fixed UMNO by not keeping useless, brainless, corrupted and backstabbing people. fixed these issues. give more opportunities to malay people in rural areas those who support you.

Jgn sampai UMNO , melayu islam, dan penduduk desa merajuk. I am malay and proud of it. as for the chinese, they get what they want and deserve,ie,. nothing.

Therefore Jebat I honestly think that what the Chinese want is total domination of the nation…they already owned the economy and now its time for the bigger cake…maybe others might shove this notion away but to see way they boasted and commented about the PRU on their FB..Twitter, etc., is not to be taken lightly.

    Dear Prime Minister,
It’s okay to govern without the Chinese votes! You and the Malays are not desperate to have their votes. We are still ruling and controlling this beautiful country. If we interprete their action, we can conclude that they have shown their stupidity and arrogance, in actual fact, they have help you and UMNO to be supreme by 100% controlling the government and have given the Malays full power to decide their fate. Now the power to govern and rule this beautiful country lies totally in the hand of the Malays via the executives ie the government and cabinet.

In fact we should say thank you to them, now let them pay the tax, we decide how to use the tax money and enjoy it. Ha ha thing happen for a reason, now we see the blessing!!!

  10. Malaysian Malaysia was never abandoned. Many Malaysia-born Chinese and Indians are now ministers in Singapore. That emotional baggage will keep this political agenda alive.

Another indicator is the CPF rule. As long as Malaysian workers’ contribution is applied just like Singaporeans with regards to withdrawal, Malaysian Malaysia is on the table.

They are just bidding for time and Anwar came along. A not too bright rabble rouser who has the oratorical skills to con the masses. Of course Tun Dol expanded the opportunity. Nik Aziz also gave the thumbs up to LKY.

Guess the Chinese read the ground as sweet enough to wrest political power from the Malays, once the economic monopoly is firmly in their hands.

But ultimately Allah sides with UMNO. Najib has been given a “slap” by the Chinese. He will be more like Muhyiddin from now onwards. With his qualifications and integrity as well as his propensity to work really hard, he will be shrewder in time.

Let’s hope Najib has learnt his bitter lesson well and reward the bumiputeras who came solidly behind him by implementing the Satu Sekolah untuk Semua. It is really non-racial and has that essential unifying force.

I’m sure no Malaysian will oppose this scheme unless of course one is racist.

They do not want MARA, UiTM, MRSM, Malay Reserve Land lot’s more. They do not want any affirmative policies for the malays. They want all to be done with meritocracy, if and when they failed the meritocracy system they want to us to change it to quota’s system. All is about them and anwar is willing to give in while pas just couldn’t see beyond the reality. What more upset is that the peoples whom is lending their hands to help, to assist and to wag the tails is none other than the malays within pas as well as pkr. I’m not sure why they love umno less, but I am certain they love dap and chinese more. If (Allah’s forbid), they’re able to gain profitably, it will go down to the history that the malays is actually charting their won downfall.

DS Najib has stated that he wants national reconciliation but it should not be at the expense of those who supported him when he faced the greatest challenge of his career and the threat to the existence of BN. He should reach out to the Chinese who were misled by DAP to believe that a Malaysia under Chinese hegemony with the Malays playing a secondary or subservient rule is possible. However, until the Chinese accept that they should be a worthy partner in a multiracial government, they should not expect DS Najib and UMNO to bend over backwards to meet their demands. Malaysia is a society where each community gives a little so that every community will be able to share in the wealth of the country. It may also be an opportune time to introduce a one school system for all, no more SJKs or Sekolah Kebangsaan but a Sekolah Wawasan with a common curriculum but mother tongue education be made compulsory.

  19. People, it’s really frustrating to see Malays bashing ALL Chinese unconditionally. I’m a product of Sekolah Kebangsaan and I can tell you, we’re worlds apart from the chauvinists and we can’t even relate to them. Until today, my best friends are Indians and Malays, and we often have long teh tarik sessions while lamenting about how shitty politics and race relations have become.

You know what? There are many right-thinking Malaysians of Chinese descent such as myself that respect Malays and acknowledge Malays as our leaders. Come on, we’re not stupid. I may be born here but my ethnic ancestors were not the natives nor owners of this land. The Malays were, are, and will forever be. Whenever I see stupid Mandarin-language FB postings urging the Chinese to do something, I would often do the opposite. For example, I totally boycott Massimo because it’s being promoted by racism and with a racist agenda. That disgusts me. Instead, I fully support Gardenia bread and Gardenia products. That’s just one example.

I travel to Jakarta regularly for business trips and my Indonesian counterparts would often be surprised that I’m fluent in Malay (I used to be in my school’s debate team, and one of my favorite subjects was Prosa Klasik, and I had two Malay girlfriends before, so what the hell) and, guess what? They told me “Tak ramai orang Cina Malaysia bisa berbahasa Melayu, tapi pak fasih bertutur bahasa Melayu dan bisa arti Bahasa Indonesia”. HOW SAD. Terdapat rakyat Malaysia yang tidak erti bertutur dalam Bahasa Kebangsaan kita sendiri!! In my books, such people don’t deserve to be citizens. In all other developed nations, the criteria for accepting a foreigner as a citizen include the ability for the foreigner to INTEGRATE into the host society, to SPEAK THE NATIONAL LANGUAGE, and to understand and obey the local laws and constitution. Are we seeing any of these among large numbers of non-Malays? NO. And this makes me angry too! Are they treating Malaysia as their home or not?? Are they respecting the national and cultural identity of Malaysia or not??!

The Chinese tsunami is unfortunate, but it’s a direct result of race-based politics practiced by both BN and PR. Friends and countrymen, let’s revive the spirit of Putera-AMCJA. We have to start deprogramming the racist Chinese. We have to start considering vernacular education to be a serious threat to racial integration. We have to build stronger bridges between the Malays and Chinese. We have to break apart the greedy and unethical Chinese-run conglomerates such as Berjaya, YTL, Genting, etc that have gotten countless projects and massive income from the government, but have given hardly anything back to society and have generated hardly any jobs for the Malays. These monopolistic vehicles contribute greatly to the disproportionate distribution of wealth in our society and even within the Chinese community, and they’re just amassing all that wealth within their family’s coffers. Why lynch Pehin Taib Mahmud when there are Chinese cronies who have been doing it just as bad for just as long.

Dear friends, it’s fine to boycott Chinese goods as a sign of protest. It’s okay to label the chauvinists as pigs and racists. But please do not give up on the Malaysian Chinese who are Malaysians first, and Chinese second. We are not your enemies. We hate the Chinese chauvinists just as much as you do. Please reach out to us. Please reach out to the “bananas”. Please reach out to the urban Chinese in mixed-demographic neighborhoods. That is the best way to bring the Chinese back to BN. The Malays are a very reasonable people. If they’re angry, you know you’ve driven them to the absolute limits!.

By being unconditionally anti-Chinese and fighting fire with fire, non-Bumiputra Malaysians such as myself will feel more insecure and more distant from this beloved country of ours. And it’s factors such as these that has caused large numbers of Malaysians to leave Malaysia permanently.

I hope that more leaders within UMNO will emerge who are more articulate and forward-thinking than the current crop of incompetent oligarchs. MCA and MIC are obsolete and toothless. UMNO is strong but it, too, is going obsolete. DS Najib Tun Razak should make excellent use of his remaining numbered days as the PM to reinvent UMNO into a political force that is admired and respected by all races, instead of one that is ridiculed by all and sundry. And he can start to do so by engaging the urban non-racist non-Malays to build bridges with the strategic-minded forward-thinking next-generation Malay leaders within UMNO. Trust me, we’ll be more than willing to play ball as long as there’s a good game to be played.

But when the traditional MCA supporters abandon MCA/BN, you have to expect the Chinese bashing, and not feel that it’s against ALL Chinese. They are aimed at the DAP Chinese and those who fell for their manipulation, emotion stirring and incitement, without regard for what UMNO/MCA etc have done for the Chinese and others all these 56 years.

We understand your anxieties and concerns and we must all work towards getting the non-mainstream Chinese see the realities of nation building and abandon DAP race politics. Yes, sad, “Tak ramai orang Cina Malaysia bisa berbahasa Melayu” and we must speak for Sekolah Satu Aliran so that everybody gets to learn and practise BM since school days, like you did,

We have to accept that “such people” have become and are citizens but they should not be enticed by all sorts of carrots any more. Implement the Single Stream Schooling proposal and let those who don’t like it migrate if they want to. After all, Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Khoo Kay Kim has said “Berhijrah lah” to those who don’t like this country (belittling the Malaysian flag and foot stamping photos of national leaders last Merdeka eve at Dataran Merdeka).

Good that you talk about deprogramming the racist Chinese, about vernacular education as a serious threat to racial integration, against the greedy and unethical Chinese-run conglomerates such as Berjaya, YTL, Genting, etc that have given hardly anything back to society, enhancing the disproportionate distribution of wealth in our society.

No, Malaysians will not give up on the Chinese who are truly Malaysians first, and Chinese second – but not the DAP kind that only say those yet not feel or practise them. Yes, the Malays have always been a very reasonable people. For so long as there are Malaysians such as yourself doing every bit you can to get the errant ones in line with our national hopes and aspirations, we will not be a failed nation. So let’s whack the unreasonable ones, cajole the nasty ones and persuade the misled ones.

Let’s struggle through thick and thin – when the going gets tough, only the weak and the “unloyal” gets going. Let those who want to go, go, especially the chauvinistic and racist ones. We loyal Malaysians must keep on building this nation and must not allow it to fail.

About a malay, an indian and a chinese sitting for a teh tarik session, its a rare occasion nowadays or over the past 20 years, and getting less and less. Reality is, walk into any mamak resto anytime today now or tommorow and you will see many teh tarik sessions all day, but one malay group, one indian group and one chinese group, all these groups in different tables and talking in different languages lar.

These are all the product of outright rejection of 1School by the chauvanist rasist DAP Chinese. Need more to say? The so-called multi-racial teh tarik session is just a fake history.

You suggestion for the Malays to reach out to the 90% Chinese is noble, wise and rational. Indeed the Malays lead by DS Najib have been doing exactly that over the last 4 years. But what did the Malays get in return? Are the Malays expected to continue to be kind inspite of this? Dream on. I will be the first to abandon Najib and Umno if he do that.

Malays have been too bodoh for being too bertolak ansur and tidak kurang ajar.

Jadi calon pakatan hanya perlu lebih kurang beberapa peratus yg sudah tentu disumbang oleh melayu pas dan pkr utk memberi kemenangn pd mereka terutama dikawasan bercampur. We cannot paint all Chinese with the same brush and likewise do the same with Malays/Bumiputras too. There are still a significant number of Chinese especially the products ofSekolah Kebangsaan who do not share or subscribe to the ideology of the DAP. And we believe they can and will continue to contribute to our unique multiracial society. But there must be a change in the political structure that will, as a first step, accomodate direct entry into a truly one party multiracial BN. There is no better time to plan the dismantling of the race based parties and vernacular school system. It may be a bitter pill that must be swallowed for the sake of our nation, our children and our grand children. DS Najib and other BN leaders must initiate this change and the hoped for national reconciliation will become a reality.

  25. En. Hussin,

I agree with what you say, and I’m sure there are many other proud products of Sekolah Kebangsaan, the true MALAYSIANS (and not products of “Malaysian Malaysia”) that are, at this moment, hoping for an actual change in our society.

You have to understand the Chinese psyche. It’s no secret the the Chinese traditionally have a very strong “Me First” mentality. Everything must be on their terms. Their needs must come first. They have to preserve their interests first and foremost. When it comes to the “Social Contract” that should have been scrapped in 1977 (20 years after Merdeka), the Chinese community has this mentality that “Chinese rights” is a permanent and immutable benefit.

That is why they see nothing wrong with having a Chinese state-within-a-state in Malaysia, with Chinese language, customs, education, press and primetime news taking primacy over all else! They do not have any inkling on what it is like if the shoe was on the other foot. Let’s do a mental experiment with a simple and irrefutable example.

The Malaysian Chinese have Chinese language newspapers sold openly. They have a few dailies, in fact. Nanyang Siang Pau, Sin Chew Jit Poh, China Press, among others. They have their own slot of prime time news in Mandarin on the government broadcasting channel (TV2) and on a private broadcasting channel (Astro), as well as multiple radio stations (My FM, Redi FM, etc.). They have Chinese primary schools and secondary schools, but no Chinese-medium colleges or universities YET! For both primary and secondary schools, they have public (government-funded) and private schools. Other than these benefits, they have the usual stuff that the Chinese enjoy in other countries.. Chinese restaurants, Chinese businesses, et cetera.

What the Chinese are not happy with, however, are quota systems for public universities, civil service, scholarships, and such. These are aspects of the Malay Rights that they’re against. But the Chinese also fail to see that in the Chinese-dominated private sector, they have also imposed their own “quota system” that marginalizes the Malays and non-Chinese, with requirements such as “Mandarin-speaking preferred”, “Chinese sales person preferred” and other such discriminatory practices.

Here’s another example. They say that Malaysia is oppressive because Chinese are not given equal rights to Malays, and a common saying among the “Kampung Baru Cina” Chinese is that “If Malays can speak in Malay and have Malay schools here, why can’t Chinese speak Chinese and have Chinese schools”. Again, the “me first” mentality is evident. And it’s not something malevolent. That is the Chinese psyche which needs some time to de-program. But, under their tempurung, they fail to consider this. Nowhere else in the world are the Chinese given SO MUCH freedom outside of Chinese countries like China (including Hong Kong) and Taiwan.

Let’s look at the index of the most-liveable cities in the world. Vienna, Austria comes out tops. In terms of the global liveability survey, Vancouver is the top city. Other cities and countries like Zurich, Copenhagen, Norway, Denmark, etc. are often cited. Clearly, these cities are globally acknowledged to be heads and shoulders above Kuala Lumpur. Now, suppose that the Chinese minorities in these extremely liberal countries started to make a list of demands:

    1. Chinese language to be a recognized national language
    2. Chinese education to be a recognized national education stream
    3. Chinese newspapers and publications to be sold openly
    4. Chinese-medium news to be broadcast at prime-time
    5. Chinese residents do not need to be proficient at the national language

What do you think is going to happen to them? My guess is that the Chinese community will be attacked and chased out overnight. But do the suburban and rural Chinese realize this and count their blessings in Malaysia? I guess not. We don’t even have to go far. What if the Chinese community makes similar demands in Bangkok? They will be wiped out. What if they do so in Manilla or Melbourne? It doesn’t take much imagination.

You have to understand that the source for this Chinese selfishness is primarily due to education, not politics. DAP can be a chauvinistic party, but that is not an excuse. If UMNO suddenly asked the Malays to cleanse Malaysia of all non-Malays, do you think the Malays will take up arms and flood the streets with blood? Politics is a convenient excuse. Politicians’ propaganda and provocations will not have any effect unless their audiences already have that inclination. I firmly believe that Chinese vernacular education is a critical source of pro-Chinese indoctrination that is worsening racial polarization.

Another bone of contention is the issue of scholarships and government assistance for higher education, in which the Chinese assert that high-scoring Chinese couldn’t get scholarships while mediocre Malays get a free ride. I’m in no position to comment on this in detail as I do not have all the information, but I’ll give you an anecdote. I’m responsible for interviewing possible candidates that my past and current company need to hire for positions that report to me and my department. Do you know how often I get CVs and resumes from Chinese candidates that state their language proficiency as:

    Mandarin – Written: 10; Spoken: 10
    English – Written: 5; Spoken: 5

But when I interview them, let’s just say they seriously overestimated their English proficiency. And, wait a minute, what happened to “Bahasa Malaysia”?? Now, this is reflective of our tertiary education system. What if, for SPM school leavers, there is a Chinese student who scored 10A1s, but couldn’t speak any English or BM with any measure of decency but can rattle off Mandarin like a freestyle rapper, but there is a Malay student who only scored 5As but is proficient in Malay and English and demonstrate highly articulate speaking skills and exhibit good general knowledge? Who do you think deserves a scholarship? Do you think the education ministry has so much resource to vet through every medium- to high-achiever to test out their language proficiency, articulation, general knowledge, etc.? Of course not. Therefore, assumptions have to be made and naturally, students from vernacular schools have to be given a lower priority. It’s as simple as that. But this issue has been politicized so much that nobody cares to look at the facts any longer.

There’s another Chinese point of view that doesn’t hold up to logic, and that is the assertion that, as per Tun Mahathir’s revelation, that the non-Malays are responsible for over 80% of the nation’s tax revenue. To the Chinese chauvinists, this is a justification that they have the right to demand, because they’re saddling the government’s coffers. But they fail to look on the flipside – if 25% of the population is responsible for 80% of the tax collection, can you imagine what a bad shape the other 75% of the population is in if they’re not even eligible to pay tax?!! THE 75% NEED OUR HELP AND OUR CONTRIBUTION SHOULD BE DIRECTED TOWARDS ASSISTING THEM! It doesn’t mean that the 75% who can’t even afford to pay tax are now our slaves just because we, the 25%, are paying taxes!! Thanks to the “Me first” mentality, the Chinese community have totally failed to see this crucial point!

The new political landscape will have to break some tough eggs to come up with an omelette that can feed and sustain our beloved Malaysia for generations to come. DS Najib must not waste any time in getting some affirmative action going:

    1. Satu sekolah untuk semua. Satu bangsam satu bahasa. If Malaysians are serious about Bangsa Malaysia, this is the only way to go. No more polarization, no more discrimination, no more racial segregation.

    2. Ban racial discrimination in the private sector. “Mandarin speaking candidates only” and “Chinese candidate preferred” criteria no longer allowed unless that company deals exclusively with Chinese-speaking countries.

    3. Revive PPMSI to improve English proficiency across the board for Malays and non-Malays alike

    4. A distinction in Bahasa Malaysia and English are compulsory for non-Malays to be considered for scholarship

    5. Give lower priority to students who do not participate in any uniform services. As we all know, uniform services (pengakap, PBSM, kadet, pandu puteri, etc.) are amazing equalizers and break barriers between races really well. Students who are not part of any uniform corp are less likely to integrate well with other races.

    6. Evaluate a list of demands from ALL RACES. The Indians have Hindraf yelling about their list of demands. The Chinese have DAP and so many other Chinese pressure groups shoving their list of demands to the PM’s face all the time. WHAT ABOUT THE MALAY’S LIST OF DEMANDS?? When was the last time anybody asked WHAT DO THE MALAYS WANT??? Come on, it’s the Malay’s heartland, it’s the Malay’s native soil!! WHY HAVE POLITICIANS BEEN IGNORING THE MALAYS AND TAKING “MALAY RIGHTS” FOR GRANTED???

    7. Change the phrase “Ketuanan Melayu” to “KEPIMPINAN MELAYU”. I believe the latter is more meaningful, and it might also teach the non-Malay-speaking “citizens” a few new Malay words that they’ve not heard before

    8. Assert Malay leadership not by preserving and expanding existing crony capitalists that have not helped the community at all. Instead, GROW, NURTURE and FINANCE the large number of Malay entrepreneurs that are in Malaysia. Malay conglomerates must remain, but not to feed the fat cats. They must be the BACKBONE of not just Malay economy, but the nation’s economy. And they must do their part to support the amazing number of Malay entrepreneurs that are waiting for opportunities. I personally know so many business-savvy Malays who would make fantastic entrepreneurs if only they were given the right assistance and hooked up to the right contacts. Based on my observation, the Chinese may have a strong “business spirit” but the Malays have a much stronger “semangat keusahawanan”.

The list can go on and on. My point is that there’s definitely a need to UBAH but not in the way that DAP has been calling for. We must change the social structure in Malaysia. The non-Malays need to be reminded of who our leaders are, but not through threats and tough-talking. Admiration and respect for BN and the Malays has to be regained through positive and concrete measures that may offend a lot of people initially, but would be much lauded 10-15 years later. So, don’t be afraid to offend a large section of the population. In the case of Malaysia, the public truly DO NOT know best.

The education system has to be rebuilt from the ground-up. Sometimes things need to be done for the good of the country even if it is not popular. Poor DS Najib has been trying to hard to please everyone. This is wrong. On issues that will be strategically important to our social fabric in the long run, he should just ignore public opinion and make the hard decisions.

National reconciliation is only possible in the spirit of GIVE AND TAKE. The Malays have been giving and giving and we have been taking and taking. Sorry to say, we have not been giving much back to the Malays. DS Najib has to keep this in mind the next time he wants to negotiate on GIVE AND TAKE for the sake of reconciliation and bridge-building.

One far-flung possibility he can consider is to invite PR’s largest component, DAP, to form a coalition government of sorts by being the Chinese representation in the cabinet since MCA no longer has the legitimacy to represent the Chinese community. Just give them 4 or 5 posts, don’t give them too many. UMNO and BN will still have an overwhelming say in the cabinet and can pressure DAP to cooperate, while constructive ideas from DAP will still be able to filter through to the leaders in UMNO. DAP can be critical of the government but at the same time they can’t point fingers all the time because they’re a part of the governing machinery. On the other hand, by working closely with UMNO, hopefully that would be able to make DAP more aware of Malay issues and moderate their stance. It’s a long shot but if DS Najib can pull it off, his name will definitely be immortalized as one of our greatest PMs ever, the man behind a true alliance of rivals that paved the way for a new Malaysian national identity. But alas, it might just be a pipe dream as long as LKS and Karpal are still barking and snapping at anything with a dacing logo.

As well as why did Wong Tack lose in Bentong when we know fully well that is another Chinese majority area. Much as we like to paint the Chinese with the same paint brush we need to reach out to moderates like JS Wong to build a formidable Malaysia. It is time to build a formidable fortress made up of like minded moderates to fight off the chauvinistic elements that is eating up into Malaysia. In my area a Chinese uncle proudly wearing his BN cap going to vote. How many BN supporters did that? We the silent supporters are just too silent and seemingly apologetic for our stance for fear of going against the popular tide and for fear of being seen as racist. We should not be silent any longer but we don’t have to be vicious and vindictive either. My dad have always said that Allah loves our country and I believe him. We now have the opportunity to do what is right to get the nation back on the right track and for a start we need to break the ground swell of chauvinistic elements. 31. Dear Jebat,

Just came back from studying my postgraduate from UK. It is saddening to find that there are quite majority of these young Malay students, who is under the government scholarship are open enough to fill their facebook with spite, venom and hatefulness towards whatever the government does. Not only certain quarters of Chinese are ungrateful, but sadly it happens to the young bright students who will someday be among the leaders of the country. I think this is not a new phenomenon and has been going on for couple of years and it is a matter of how prevalent.

I think we should revise and strengthen the current Biro Tata Negara (BTN) programme and need to screen these young fellas to be sent overseas. Some hacking need to be done into their facebook so that if we felt they are really staunch opposition, have to examine them and give hundred and one reason why they cannot continue their studies overseas. I felt it is useless to send this guy as when they are there, their thinking will be more radicalised and would be more prone towards influencing other students.

These young Malays are very idealistic and easily influence when the words “corruption””, “croynisme”,”non-discrimanation” that are constantly spewed by the opposition parties. Sadly, those that are easily influenced are among the brightest lot who were sent overseas. I urge the BTN programme should be restructured in such a way that it can bring in all the emotions of the great grandfather struggle when they are being treated near slaves by the British and how illiterate and impoverish they are in so many aspects. Do they think what they are now because everything comes naturally and not because of the struggle of their forefathers. Do they think the positions the Malays are now are comfortable enough in such a way the DEB can simply be eradicated. I bet without DEB, all the wealth or position of the Malays holding now will be wiped out instantly and they will be migrants in their own country.

  32. The Chinese should be well informed that MCA/Gerakan are the only two representatives that can win the Malay’s trust of the Chinese. MCA/Gerakan are their only defence against Malays going intolerant and being ultras. The Malays trust no one except the MCA, in relations to the Chinese. They win small by rooting for DAP, but they lose big by ignoring MCA. No MCA, then Malaysia becomes exclusively MALAYS. Thats the original deal with Tun Tan Siew Sin!

  33. Looks like many here mingle with their own kind.that is why all have stupid opinions.
    A) chinese at one time spoke perfect malay especially those who studied in sekolah kebangsaan in the 80’s. Instead of rewarding these students, those who got good grades were penalised. Grade one students with some aces cannot even get into form 6.these were the first few year all subjects were taught in bm. Those malays who got good grade sympathise with their plight. Chances of getting into government universities even worse. And english medium school were abolished.so many enrolled into chinese school because at that time nanyang imstitute of technology in singapore and various taiwan universities offered affordable higher education. You have to be brilliant and extremely lucky to get places of your choice in higher education in Malaysia. So blame BN for making nons stay away from sekolah kebangsaan due to extreme abuse of affirmative policy. Fyi, indonesia and thailand doesn’t have affirmative policy and see how well the Chinese assimilate with locals there.that is due to no discrimination

    B) ex johore MB assisted in the owners of land around senai airport to be forcibly acquired at low rates to owner of senai airport. This land wasn’t used for airport expansion but for mall development. This unfair land grab is unfair especially when the guy who got the land sold it to his listed companies for hundreds of millions in profit within two years.

    C) many chinese and malays want english medium schooling for their
children. English speakers in the country are liberal and embraces diversity.

    D) BN government policy benefits UMNO businesses. So we are forced to pay double taxation.one to gahmen and another to high fees charged UMNO.
